December 2015

A Note From Nirvair

Sat Nam.

Greetings from New Mexico!

The end of the calendar year, the month of December is a very significant time. The harvest is been brought in and it is a time of celebration and sharing.

It is also a time, at the Winter Solstice, to go deep within to discover your personal community of the inner self. There are three days of White Tantric Yoga ® at Winter Solstice Sadhana. If you cannot make it to 3HO Winter Solstice Sadhana in Florida, visit the White Tantric Yoga site and pick a place and time to participate next year.

Here is what Yogi Bhajan said about participation in White Tantric Yoga on 12/27/72,

“So what we have to do is this- we have to experience. In Tantric Yoga when we do these exercises, and we leave the place of the course, we start being effective in our personality after forty days later from doing it. Do you know that? This is because the conscious mind penetrates through the subconscious block into the universal consciousness. When that penetration takes place during what we have done, the reversal period is forty day. Then the light overtakes the personality, clearing the path and the individual consciousness is levitated. So it is not something that you have now after your participation. You are having it now, so you can have it anyway. But it is a psychic energy, it is a psyche, it is a soul connection. That's why they call it the science of sound and light. It connects you and it continues with you, you don't leave it. It can't leave you. You may be negative, you may be positive, it has got nothing to do with that. You may have two tons of garbage, if it is going to takeaway from you twenty pounds, it is going to take away twenty pounds from you anyway.”

This is also a time to share what you have earned this year. Support the future of The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings ® with a donation. Yogi Bhajan was a giver and he inspired us to be givers as well. Here is what he said about 10% donations on 7/5/83,

“That will be the money which will take care of our tomorrow, and that is consciously relating to a good tomorrow. So we want you to give one tenth of your time to God and Guru, and we want you also to give one tenth of your time in preaching the Truth of the Guru, giving people exercises, helping people, donating your time to people, to uplift them. That is what, 'Vandchako,' means - it's one of the tenets of the Sikh Dharma. 'Vandchako,' means give one tenth of your time to yourself, one tenth of your time to uplift other people, and one tenth of your possession, or your money, or your earning towards other people through the avenue of God and Guru. If you stretch your mind honestly to that, you will feel a great achievement, great fulfillment, great satisfaction.”

Have you been practicing those great kriyas from Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan ® that I have been sharing with you in the monthly video meditation? Here are some comments that Yogi Bhajan made on 2/13/79 about this great kriya of this month. Practice it with me. Start with 11 minutes and build up the time slowly so we can do this together on the 21st, Winter Solstice day for the full 31 minutes.

“This is a very powerful meditation. It's very sacred, very secret and it is meant for all of you to adhere and bring in you the tranquility, the peace you need. That mental peace of the inner mind can be developed if you do this meditation. Start for about eleven minutes, relax about it, and then develop it to twenty-two minutes and then thirty-one minutes. I will not like you to meditate this way more than thirty-one minutes, though you may like it. Thirty-one minutes is very, very enough for a human system and human consciousness and human glandular system to hold on to. That's enough.”

My personal thanks go to a very lively and dedicated people working in group-consciousness - our KRI Staff and the KRI Board of Directors. Thanks again for a job well done this year.
Here is prayer and the key to your prosperity from Yogi Bhajan on 2/22/89,

“God bless you, peace be within you. Whether you may be poor or rich or whether you may be good or bad, never ever in your life, in any moment of life, may you not act without kindness and compassion. That is all God is, that is all divine, that is all prosperity.”

May you have a blessed Winter Solstice celebration and may your holidays be filled with happiness, grace, and fun with family and friends,

Nirvair Singh Khalsa

Sat Nam from The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings™

Happy Holidays and a Happy Winter Solstice from The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings®! This is a special time of year for me because I get to spend time with family that I seldom get to see. Good food, loving family, and warm vibrations – it doesn’t get better than this.

It’s also when we host our yearend fundraising event for the Library of Teachings. This year we will be focusing on the extraordinary benefits of Morning Sadhana. We dove deep into The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings® searchable database to uncover some of the Yogi Bhajan’s original teachings about Aquarian Sadhana and each of the mantras that are used!

In gratitude for all of our supporters, we will be giving away free downloadable Aquarian Sadhana music tracks from your favorite musicians with each email! Stay tuned and watch for our emails to get your free music, December 10-21st, the 11 days leading up to the Winter Solstice.

Here is an excerpt from a lecture on happiness that Yogi Bhajan gave in 1991 at Winter Solstice, on Christmas day. I love this lecture! Here Yogi Bhajan talks about achieving happiness and more specifically how we are in control of our own happiness. He says “Without happiness, you will have three things to do: either you will try to control your environments, or you will let your environments go, or you will start playing games with your environments. These are the three destructive attitudes”

This lecture is full of wonderful gems… he goes on to say:

“If you look around, you shall be surprised. You shall only find yourself. Changes are inevitable. We can't stop when the weather changes, we can't stop when a relationship changes, because it is the process of growth. In that we get divided, we get separated, we get united. We have an imagination of happiness or we can enjoy happiness, these are two separate things. There is one happiness that you think is and there is one happiness that is. It is.

Normally as human being, you have an imaginative happiness and you do not have a real happiness. We have been trying to work with you for the last twenty-two years so that you can conclude that imaginative happiness is not only imaginative but it is also destructive. It brings hopelessness. First you pin down your hopes and then when your hopes don't come true, you feel depressed. When a person is depressed he's unable to express and when you cannot express yourself then you are not a human. You are no more than a statue, you are no more than existence.” Yogi Bhajan, December 25, 1991

Read or watch the entire lecture here. There is so much more to glean from this lecture as he walks you through the awareness of imaginative happiness.

Teacher Tip

This year we are highlighting the many features The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings® searchable database offers Kundalini Yoga Teachers!

December’s Teacher Tip
Location Filters

Have you ever wanted to search for a lecture from a certain city or country? Well, you can!

You can filter search results by location by expanding the City or Country facet and selecting the location where events were held that you want to find in the Library. The search results will constrain to just that location.

  1. In the search bar, enter your search topic or phrase and select lectures in the drop down menu and press enter

  2. Once you see your results look for the ‘Filter By’ column on the left hand side

  3. Look for ‘Country’ and ‘City’ options; expand these two filters by pressing the plus sign to the right of them which will expand the list.

This tool is very useful when you want to search for a lecture by location. Instead of browsing hundreds of lectures looking for the city and country simply narrow the results down by using the filters!

As always, thank you so much for your continued support.. it’s people like you and me that are keeping this resource evolving and growing in to the wonderful source of these precious teachings. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to improve your experience with the database!

One of the most inspiring parts of my job is traveling around the world to meet and support our incredible KRI instructors that are busy teaching and serving humanity. I have just had the blessing to visit and teach at the vibrant Kundalini Yoga and Sikh community in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At the center of the community is Chayo Yoga Studio and Café with Rajveer Singh Khalsa as the founder and manager. He is an experienced Teacher Trainer with the Aquarian Trainer Academy, and is committed to making Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan and the teachings of Sikh Dharma available to all. Rajveer Singh is a tireless ambassador with the heart of a lion. He talks about Kundalini Yoga and Sikh youth camps to everyone that he meets, building the energy and excitement until you can’t wait to attend. He draws a wide range of teachers to Chayo and introduces every guest teacher with such enthusiasm it is simply amazing!

Chayo Studio is a busy place with a diverse and multi-faceted schedule. Chayo serves the people of Malaysia with wide range of spiritual and healing classes, including:

  • The Akal Care Group that reaches out to serve any member of the community that is in need, suffering from illness or loss. This group recently received a three-day training from the Guru Ram Das Center for Medicine and Humanology and they are putting this technology to good use. I joined their monthly meeting where they inspire and support one another in their work.

  • Morning Aquarian Sadhana every weekend followed by breakfast at the Chayo Café. The Sunday I was there they celebrated the birthday of Suzanne, one of the volunteer staff, with chocolate cake being served throughout the day.

Chayo Studio in Malaysia
By Rajveer Singh Khalsa

Chayo Studio is a little gem that sits above the Chayo Café in Petaling Jaya, Selangor – just outside of the busy metropolis of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. It is an oasis in that hectic city, a beautiful and calming space dedicated to the practice of yoga, personal healing, and spiritual development. Our main passion at Chayo is teaching Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan and Sat Nam Rasayan, but we also host other classes for the community including Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Children’s Yoga, Taekwan-Do, Bhangra Dance, and more.

Chayo Studio has a large, bright yoga room for 25-30 students. We have an excellent sound and audiovisual system as well as full wall-mirrors for yoga, dance, or martial arts activities. We also have a small studio for private classes - a cozy space for up to 10 students. Our retail shop sells spiritual and yoga books, music and yoga CDs and DVDs, yoga wear, yoga mats, and healing jewelry.

We have been here, serving the Malaysian community, for over 8 years. All of our regular daily classes are held without charge – “by donation” only. This allows everyone, from all strata of Malaysian society, to attend classes and receive the healing vibration that they need. This is our seva and we are dedicated to serving and healing our community.

In addition to our weekly schedule, we have 10-15 incredible workshops every year that we do charge for, and this is what sustains us. We organize the japa of 10,000 repetitions of Kundalini Surajhee Satsang with Jugat Guru Singh Khalsa every spring, we host Gurudev Singh for Sat Nam Rasayan classes, and many other international teachers that bring a powerhouse of energy to Chayo.

Chayo Studio also humbly serves the Sikh sangat here in Malaysia. We collaborate together on Camp Miri Piri, Akaal Camp, and many other Sikh youth programs. With joy we celebrate this lifestyle with the Sikh sangat and love serving and sharing with everyone.

Yogi Bhajan changed my life in many deep and profound ways. Without him, I really don’t know where I would be today. He told me to teach Kundalini Yoga in South-East Asia and to lead fearlessly and with strength. This is the hukam I live every day together with my wife Guru Jaswant Kaur Khalsa and our beautiful son Parm Jaap Singh. We are deeply grateful to Guru Ram Das ji that Chayo Studio serves many, many people from all walks of life. By Guru’s Grace, we will continue to grow step by step.

We welcome you to drop by any time to visit Chayo Studio, take a class, teach a class, or just have a cup of tea and a chat with us. Malaysia is a far away place, but a great stopover if you are traveling between east and west. Hail, Hail Guru Ram Das, and heal our world! Sat Nam.

Join us in Level Three Teacher Training

As a teacher and practitioner of Kundalini Yoga, you know that this path is more about the journey than the destination. Many of us have found that after years of dedication to spirit, seva for others, and work on ourselves, there is so much that has been gained and with that comes deep gratitude for our teacher and for this Path. However, side by side with gratitude comes the perpetual yearning to go deeper, knowing that there is so much yet undiscovered and much more work to be done.

It is with that yearning that Level Three Teacher Training was born. Initially conceived by Yogi Bhajan, these were his words about it in 1996:

“In KRI’s Level Three program, one becomes a teacher, a teacher of truth and spirit. You develop the ability to penetrate and communicate through your presence alone and uplift the students through your subtle body. This is the teacher of the Aquarian Age, the Aquarian Teacher. Students experience the truth within them through your intention, projection, and purity. ... Remember – as a Teacher, anything and everything you do must upgrade the other person.”

In 2011, the international trainers participating in TTEC (Teacher Training Executive Council) posed the question: what is the purpose and nature of Level Three as envisioned by Yogi Bhajan and how can we give it form? What resulted was not so much a process of program development, but rather a profound journey of discovery of what it means to be a Teacher as described by Yogi Bhajan. As explain by Dr. Krishna Kaur Khalsa, “Level Three is very different from Levels One or Two. It is about “being”, not “doing”. It is about giving the student an experience. It is about uplifting others through your very presence. It is a process, not a final destination. Level Three allows for the uniqueness of each individual to fully manifest him or herself as a Teacher.”

The format of Level Three is unlike the teaching-testing model of Level One and Level Two Teacher Training. In reality, testing cannot be done to determine the impact of your subtle body. Teachers who attain the attributes that Yogi Bhajan described as “level three” are self-manifested and no test, assessment, or judgment can assess their consciousness. With this understanding, TTEC has conceived and manifested Level Three as a 1,000-day group process that focuses on your commitment to meditation, service to humanity, and expansion of spiritual capacity. The “21 Stages of Meditation” is an essential course for Level Three, and this is the only group course required. During this 1,000-day commitment you will embark on a yatra, a spiritual journey to new frontiers of your consciousness. You will move together through Level Three with a group of your peers by:

• Participating in supportive dialogue sessions with your group,

• Diving deep into the meditative mind through the effort of personal meditations,

• Cultivating spiritual maturity and your relationship with the Divine,

• Developing an attitude of selfless service towards humanity through seva.

TTEC completed its Level Three Alpha Test in April 2015. Last summer, Beta Test groups, drawn from members of the Aquarian Trainer Academy, started up in both the USA and Europe at the first ever Level Three Melas (inspirational gatherings of spirit to encourage and support Level Three yogis on their journey).

The 2016 Summer Melas will welcome a new group (cohort) to Level Three. All certified Level Two teachers who meet the prerequisites are welcome to apply. Please note that Level Three is still in a “testing” mode and numbers will be limited and filled on a “first come first serve” basis.
