Sat Nam and Greetings from New Mexico!

We celebrate the birthday of Guru Ram Das this month. Yogi Bhajan gave us the mantra “Guru Guru Wahe Guru Guru Ram Das Guru” in the very early years of his teaching in the West. It is an ashtang mantra—eight vibrations—which can be recited, chanted or sung. I have used the mantra daily for many years. It is really woven into the fabric of my life and I rely on the strength and comfort it gives me.

The Aquarian Teacher is a wonderful reference to the teachings of Yogi Bhajan. It is available at The Source

On page 84, it says: “This is a mantra of humility, relaxation, self-healing, and emotional relief. It calls on the spirit of humility and the grace of the realm of Guru Ram Das, with its spiritual guiding light and protective grace. It reconnects the experience of infinity to the finite, and therefore rescues you in the midst of trial and danger.

“The first part, Guroo Guroo Whaa-hay Guroo is a nirgun mantra (nirgun means without any qualities)—one which vibrates only to infinity, having no actual finite components. It projects the mind to the source of knowledge and ecstasy. The second part, Guroo Raam Daas Guroo is a sirgun mantra (sirgun means with form). It therefore projects the mind to Infinity and then gives a finite guiding relationship on a practical level. This mantra was given to Yogi Bhajan by Guru Ram Das in his subtle Self”

There are many lovely musical versions of this mantra. So, this month I urge you to play them, listen to them and sing along with them.

Kind regards and blessings,

News from The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings

Sat Nam and Greetings from The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings!

We are prospering—even in these difficult economic times—and that’s the miracle of Guru Ram Das. That one who balances the sun and moon and delivers the earth to the ecstasy of the ethers continues to work. We received an anonymous donation of $12,500 in late September; just days before we began our Guru Ram Das celebrations here in Northern New Mexico. I also received a $3 donation just this morning as I write this piece. Each donation is the same in my eyes because each represents a sense of belonging to these teachings—that longing to belong that lies in the heart of each of us. Each gift represents one bead along a great mala that is every student, teacher and trainer around the world, serving these teachings, and in turn, serving each other, because of them. These teachings are the string, holding this great mala together—the legacy of our Teacher, Yogi Bhajan—and this is his gift to us.

It’s true that the larger donation will contribute more to the archival effort; but the smaller donation’s value isn’t lost to me—or to anyone here at The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings. These small donations work together to contribute just as much or more. Through the intention and collective prayer of each donor, large or small, these precious teachings live on—in the heart of every person and in the words of the master himself, preserved for future generations through the work of The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings.

Create your own miracle—large or small—become a part of The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings today! Run your fingers along the mala. Chant the mantra, Guru Guru Wahe Guru Guru Ram Das Guru, and tune-in to the legacy that is the global community of students and teachers of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®. Live the legacy—practice in community, create the unity, live in prosperity, and always keep the teachings pure—in this way, may you be delivered to your destiny. And may our shared destiny continue on as we serve each other and the world in the coming Aquarian Age.

Thank you and God Bless you,

Sat Purkh Kaur Khalsa

We Are KRI - Now Is the Time for Teachers!

It is the season of Guru Ram Das, the time of the year when we unite in meditation for 11 minutes all over the globe. These are my favorite 11 minutes of the year; a time when we are all united in the sound current. Miracles can and do happen at this time of year.

I have been thinking about We Are KRI, our global community of Trainers and Trainings all around the world, and I have realized how incredibly prosperous KRI is. Our prosperity lies in you—our trainers, teachers, and students. Together we offer more than 500 Teacher Training Programs a year and uplift countless lives through Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®.

This month We Are KRI is featuring the Teacher Training in Thailand led by Sunder Singh. Later this month, Sunder Singh will be offering the Transformation Level Two Teacher Training Lifecycles and Lifestyles as part of the Second Annual Kundalini Yoga Festival in Asia. This festival unites Kundalini Yoga Students, Teachers and Trainers from all over Asia with many traveling from Europe and the United States to attend. Developed by the regional teachers from Sunder Singh’s Level One: Foundations Aquarian Teacher Training Program—Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Kuala Lampur, and Malaysia—this year’s featured teachers are Sunder Singh, Nirvair Singh, Nirvair Kaur, Ek Ong Kaar Kaur, Dr. Kartar Singh and Kartar Singh. For more information on the festival, see

Here in New Mexico we recently gathered our global community of trainers at our Teacher Training Executive Committee meetings with trainers from Germany, Canada, France, Brazil, and the United States gathering to develop the Level Three: Realization Aquarian Teacher Training program. This is the same team that worked together to create the Level One: Foundations and Level Two: Transformations Aquarian Teacher Training Programs.

Let us know what is happening with Teacher Training in your community. Please contact Hari Charn Kaur at hck@kriteachings.org.

Blessings to you from all of us at KRI,

Message from the DOT

Sat Nam and Blessings from the Desk of the Director of Training!

Gurucharan Singh would like to thank everyone for their healing prayers over the past few weeks and months. He has emerged from his healing crisis this summer full of the vim and vigor he’s so known for—and ready to get back to writing and teaching and developing Level Three: Realization, the third and final part of the Aquarian Teacher International Teacher Training Program. We’re glad to have him back!

He recounted a story during the recent Teacher Training Executive Council meetings that I thought I would share on his behalf:

While in the hospital, I received a call from a student whom I hadn’t spoken to in a while. I asked him where he was and he said he was about to go and receive darshan from a teacher and saint in India, where he was currently traveling. He asked where I was and I replied, “in the hospital.” He said, “Hold on! I’ll call you right back,” which he did. He recounted this story to me. “I asked this teacher to bless you, Gurucharan, with a healing. So he prayed and chanted and said to me, ‘Call your teacher and tell him he cannot die, he has too much work to do!’” Well, of course, I laughed; because in fact, I do have too much work to do! We all do!

The Aquarian Age approaches—and it will not wait for us. Yogi Bhajan often said that people would first fly to us, then walk to us, then crawl to us. I experienced my own particular form of crawling these past few weeks, during my healing crisis, and I have emerged on this side knowing how important the work we’re doing here—together—really is. We have received a gift—and it’s our duty to pass it on. Regardless of our own crises, our own personal stories, or even our own agendas! Out there, in the world, people don’t care! They just want to be served and uplifted. So, let’s get to work. In the words of our teacher, “Excel! Excel! Excel!” And may we all continue to prosper in the coming Age through the grace of Guru Ram Das and the legacy of our teacher, Yogi Bhajan, Master of Kundalini Yoga.

Many blessings,

On Behalf of Gurucharan Singh Khalsa, PhD

In the course of working on new products here at KRI, as well as in the course of teaching, we often come across refinements to kriyas and meditations that have been taught for years. For example, in putting together the I AM A WOMAN DVD Series, Practicing Kindness, we came across a refinement to Tershula Kriya, also known as the Thunderbolt of Shiva, found in both the Aquarian Teacher Yoga Manual (p. 451) and the new I AM A WOMAN: Essential Kriyas for Women in the Aquarian Age (p. 80). For the mudra to be accurate, the tip of the middle finger of the right hand should rest on the tip of the index finger of the left hand. In this way, the fingers align to create a perfect point, increasing the power of the mudra.

Another refinement that came to us recently is regarding the frequently practiced Prosperity Meditation, using the mantra Har (Aquarian Teacher Yoga Manual p. 439). For the meditation to work at its highest frequency, the refinement of the mudra is as follows: as the index fingers strike one another, the right thumb should be under the left. We’ve posted a new photo for this meditation to clarify the mudra. If, like me, your knuckles used to get sore, practicing the meditation in this way is also much less painful!

You’ll find many more refinements and corrections on our new Tools for Teachers and Students page. Any additional updates to manuals will be posted here—so continue to check back.

Yogic Recipe of the Month

Parsley Pilau

This is a very good male food. (Women enjoy it also.) It is useful when you get headaches or feel a heaviness in your head, or when you feel unnecessarily sleepy. It is very good for the brain and can be eaten as a mono diet. For extra energy, if you must work very hard, eat with yougurt.

1 Cup of Basmati Rice

1 Cup of Parsley

2 Cups of unskinned chopped potatoes

2 Onions

2 tsp. of Oregano seeds

1 tsp.  of Ground red pepper (or add more to taste)

1 Tbsp. of Turmeric

1 tsp. of Black pepper

2 Crushed Bay leaves

1/2 cup of Ghee

Sauté onions in ghee.  Add spices and cook until browned.  Then add rice, potatoes and parsley and stir for a while.  Add water (to steam the rice), cover, and cook for another 15 minutes.

The KRI Photo Archive Project

The KRI Photography Archive project has a new goal!

If you have any photographs from the last 40 years (pics of your family, your Solstice experiences, your first turban, etc.) that you would like to contribute to the Archive collection, we have found an efficient way for you to outsource the scanning of your old photographs! Scan Cafe (http://www.scanscafe.com) offers a cheap and easy way for you to send your prints, slides, and negatives to be scanned. Mr. Sikhnet is using this and so far he really likes the amount of communication and level of options it gives to the customer. The base cost of a scan is $.29. You can review the whole collection and select to keep only the good pictures.

Once you have your digital images, please send us a copy and we’ll add the images to the KRI Archive Project. We will gladly house your pictures in the Photo Archives and add metadata so that we have more of a complete collection!

In order for these 40-year-old deteriorating slides and negatives to be archived completely, we need your support and contributions to raise at least $100,000. Currently the KRI Photography Archive project is happy to share that we have over 8500 images scanned and over 3000 of those photographs tagged with the necessary meta data so that they will be search-able in the future. In the meantime, we want to share some of these moments with the Master with you.

You can purchase these exclusive images at http://www.yogibhajan.org/YBPhotos.htm and enjoy them in your home. Or, if you'd like to simply donate to the continuation of this project, we'd appreciate your support.
Also, please benefit from our gift to you of a FREE download image to promote the Kundalini Yoga Course. Please enjoy our gift and share these invaluable teachings.
