Kundalini Research Institute Newsletter

February 2011

Sat Nam. Greetings from New Mexico!

February is the second month of this new decade and it is a good time to think about relationships in life. Yogi Bhajan, in his years of teaching, had some wonderful perspectives on the topic: “Our whole essence is a discipline and our highest point in discipline is to be in love with others and carry them with both our head and our heart.” “The fact is that if a person has not experienced the love of his and her soul within one self there is no chance that that person can go out and love.” (From March 20, 2001 and July 29, 1996 respectively.) Check out our home page where I talk a bit more about relationship and Tarn Taran Singh, KRI’s Executive Director Aquarian Teacher, teaches a wonderful kriya.

Congratulations to all those dedicated yogis that are keeping up with the 1,000-day meditation. We have passed the second year and are going strong! The sadhana ends on 11/11/11. We will be having a grand celebration of the coming of the Aquarian Age here in Española—so save the date! There will be Yogi Bhajan video lectures, guest appearances, kriyas, celestial communication and music in a daylong event that we will broadcast on the internet.

Registration for our summer courses is now open. If you are considering becoming a teacher In Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan ®, I really hope you will join us this August.

And if you are already a Level One certified teacher, join us, after Summer Solstice Sadhana, for the Level Two Teacher Training “Conscious Communication” course. We have a really fine lineup of gifted international trainers this summer. Sada Sat Kaur, Shanti Shanti Kaur, Gurudass Singh, Gurucharan Singh and Nirvair Singh will be the trainers in this essential course.

1000 Yogi Bhajan DVD’s are available now at our store, The Source. These are raw unedited lectures from Yogi Bhajan that have been so popular in VHS format over the years. You can find them here.

Have you listened to our Yogi Bhajan radio station? http://www.yogibhajan.org/radio  I have been listening and have found it very inspiring!

News from The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings

Yogi Bhajan Library of TeachingsIn 1981, I was a 24-year-old college graduate with a degree in Journalism and a passion to change the world. Unfortunately, reality soon fell short of my idealism and I became disillusioned and dispirited. Then Kundalini Yoga and Yogi Bhajan came into my world and my life was changed forever! In a few months, I went from working for a commercial publishing company in a posh building in Los Angeles to transcribing and editing Yogi Bhajan's words in the humble offices of the Kundalini Research Institute in Pomona, California. I was in bliss! My spiritual journey began there with the words of the Master echoing in my brain and I was never happier.

Today, after many years of serving our Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma communities, I find myself blessed again to be in the service of Yogi Bhajan's teachings. I am honored to serve The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings as this year's Capital Campaign Manager. I see so many opportunities to share the wisdom and light of our technology with humanity. As we enter this Aquarian Age (chanting our Aquarian March) I look forward to the celebration, honoring and embodying all Yogi Bhajan taught us.

The focus of The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings continues to center on the archiving, digitizing, transcribing and editing of thousands of lectures, kriyas and yoga sets taught since 1969 until Yogiji's passing in 2004. Many of the materials are available on this website for your enjoyment. In fact, be sure to check out the brand new Yogi Bhajan Radio There is so much more to do and time is still of the essence to protect and preserve these precious gems for our children and future generations. Please consider what you can give to support this project by donating here now!

I look forward to hearing from each of you who have been a part of preserving the legacy. We want to know how you have been touched by Yogi Bhajan's teachings. Please email me at sarbnam@kriteachings.org to share your story. Together, we will tell an amazing tale of millions of lives touched and changed in so many ways (as mine was and is). We have a wonderful team serving the mission of ensuring that we can fund the ongoing preservation in order to make these teachings accessible to teachers and students. I am grateful to all who have been part of this process and to all who will donate this year and beyond, in ways large and small. Let's keep marching together toward the dawning Aquarian Age!

We Are KRI

Sat Nam.

February is the month of Valentine’s Day, a time when we remember the beloved ones in our lives. Yogi Bhajan wrote a poem on Love which I would like to share:

Love (Piaar)
I am God’s Beloved,
I am never separate fom Him

Hold me close, Oh my Love!
For I am Love Itself.

                                     From Furmaan Khalsa

One of the most powerful relationships is found in our Group Sadhana. I have just returned from both Winter Solstice and the Chilean Yoga Festival where I was able to join together with hundreds in the Amrit Vela. I began to reflect on what Yogi Bhan told us of the coming of the Aquarian Age: he warned us over and over again not to isolate. This year is already moving so fast and so is life. As we move toward the beginning of the Aquarian Age on November 11, 2011, the tendency will be to isolate. We’ve already created the environments as people become more and more dependent upon electronic interfaces, working independently from home, with little focus on face to face interactions.

“Your body is the Temple of God, and your soul is the Divine Guru within. So you get up in the morning, meditate, chant the mantras, do the exercises, call all your spirit, regulate the breath, and you get together in group consciousness. If, in this whole group, one person opens up to God just once, we will all be blessed in his openness. Group consciousness in the early morning is to help one another. If one has walked into sadhana with heart and soul in a prayerful mind, we will all benefit. That is the power of the group sadhana. All should participate.

If in morning sadhana one cannot curtail the barriers and get to Oneness, I don’t think there is any other time it can happen. All for one, and one for all, that is the principle. . . . The happiness of one person balances the sadness of another.” He also reminded us that if we must practice alone, we can still experience the group: “while you are chanting, imagine a million others all around you. Hear them all chanting with you. ”

—Yogi Bhajan from The Aquarian Teacher

I look forward to a wonderful 2011 with all of you. I hope to see you at the Conscious Communication Level Two: Transformation Course in Española, June 26th – July 2nd or at the Immersion Course in August.  Every one of us is born out of God’s own personal song. —Yogi Bhajan

For many of us, the feeling of being unloved has been with us for so long, we don’t even know where it came from or why it has stayed with us so long. It’s simply the source of an undifferentiated anxiety, an alien-ness, that we carry with us all our lives. Valentine’s Day is sometimes a painful reminder of that other-ness we carry. Don’t get me wrong, we’re successful, we’re talented, we’re even happy, most of the time. But in the quiet hours, when stillness surrounds us and life seems suspended in animation, we have a moment of doubt—a question—that has been with us since the beginning. Each person’s question may be slightly different; but it comes from the same feeling, that same place—the alien.

We can convince our conscious minds that we are loved, that we are a part of all that is, and yes, that we are born of God’s song; but it is not our conscious minds that needs to be convinced. It is not the conscious mind that carries this alien-ness within us; it is the subconscious. Yogi Bhajan gave us so many technologies to heal and reveal our True Selves; but a unique series of lectures addressed this deep sense of ‘not belonging’; he called it Rebirthing.

A personal favorite of mine is Rebirthing Volume Four, Housecleaning IV, which takes us through the process of all of our pains and allows us to rewrite our own stories. So instead of feeling alien, even to ourselves, we can rewrite our futures as one who was wanted and loved from the beginning, conceived in consciousness. Re-conceive of yourself with the Rebirthing Series today and live in the Divine Love in which you were made.

There are currently 8 volumes available in the Rebirthing Series. KRI will release 16 more throughout 2011. And later this summer, look for the Rebirthing Yoga Manual, available June 2011.

 Greetings from 3HO Foundation International!

We hope this New Year is bringing you the focus, discipline, and expansion we all need to keep up with these times. We continue to prepare for the launch of 3HO’s Global Seva Project, and the celebration of International Women’s Day.

3HO’s Global Seva Project

We are excited to announce the launch of the 3HO Global Seva Project in February 2011. Our goal is to collectively log 108,000 hours of service. Every time you do any form of seva, you can add your hours to the collective on 3HO.org. We will be able to see how many hours we have accumulated at any point in time as a global community. You will also have a place to post pictures, videos, and stories of your seva experience in hopes that this will ignite and inspire ideas for others. Here’s to a year full of love, connection, and service!

International Women’s Day

For the women of the world, the United Nations’ International Women’s Day is an occasion to review how far we have come in the struggle for equality, peace, and development. It is also an opportunity to unite, network, and mobilize for meaningful change.

3HO whole-heartedly supports and celebrates this cause, as our lifestyle is largely based on acknowledging the grace and dignity of all women. Yogi Bhajan often said that the state of a nation is reflected in the face of its women. He claimed that that when men of the world respect women, there will be peace on the planet. He spent every summer teaching women to become self-empowered and to sense the limitless, infinite, creative power that lies within all women.
Yogi Bhajan spent the better part of 30 years trying to get women to see who and what they really are—creative, sacred, and invincible. He was baffled by the language used to refer to women—as “chicks”—and he turned it on its head by declaring that he would turn chicks into eagles.

Respect is every woman’s God-given right, and when she claims her rightful power and majesty as Adi Shakti—the feminine aspect of God and the manifesting power of creation—she becomes invincible.

Our security as women doesn’t come from anything outside ourselves. It comes from within; it comes from our connection to the Infinite which gives us the strength and wisdom to be who we really are. In our vastness we can contain our world—not control it. The simple act of prayerfully holding the world together is our greatest virtue. We are the creators and we have the power to change the world by changing ourselves.

3HO is offering a class curriculum, suggested seva projects, and a global meditation to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8. Click here for information.
