The residential portion of the Immersion ends with breakfast on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. We recommend making your plane reservations for after 11am on Saturday. This will give you time to get to the Kona International Airport on the shuttle with time to check in and make your flight home. See Transportation information below for details.
If you arrange housing through KRI, your accommodations will be available from Sunday night before Orientation until the last Wednesday morning. Some people plan to stay a day or two before or after to go sightseeing.
The Residential Part of the program is held at Hawaii Island Retreat located in Kapaau, Hawaii. You are responsible for arranging your own arrival and departure shuttles. If you arrive before or after the scheduled arrival and/or departure days, please email firstname.lastname@example.org in advance.
Kona International Airport is where you will fly into. Schedule an early flight. Your flight should arrive in Kapaau before 2 PM. More than likely you will need to arrive the day before. This will offer you the opportunity to have a night and morning to yourself in Hawaii before the start of the training. You are responsible for any additional housing. It is about a 1 hour drive from the Kona Airport to the venue. Registration is between 3 PM and 4 PM on Sunday. Make sure to allow yourself time to register and go to your residence before orientation at 4 PM. Schedule your return flight to leave Kona International Airport after 11 am so you have enough time for breakfast and the shuttle ride.

- From Kona International Airport, turn left onto Hwy. 19 and drive north toward Waimea.
- After about 30 minutes, turn left at the “T” on Kawaihae Road toward Kawaihae Harbor.
- Drive one mile, then turn right at the sign for Hawi on Hwy. 270.
- Continue north on Hwy. 270 for 22 miles until you reach Hawi.
- Drive through Hawi town and continue for 1.6 miles toward Kapa’au.
- Pass the Aloha Gas Station on the left.
- Look for a white vinyl fence on the left side.
- At the end of the fence, Look for a guard rail
- Take your first left after the uard rail at Maluhia Road – it is a gravel road and there will be “Shoreline Public Access” and “Hawaii Island Retreat” signs at the turn. Follow these signs.
- Turn left at the “T’ through the tunnel of trees, turn right.
- Bear right when the road splits and enter the Porte Cochere. You have arrived!
The residential portion is an experience of physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual transformation.
You will be sitting on the floor or the ground for the duration of the program. There will be seating accommodations as well.
Some people experience emotional highs and lows during the training. This is normal and you are encouraged to allow yourself to go through the experience and use your free time for processing your experience in a way that suits you. Take time to journal, draw, walk, or find a quiet place to sit and reflect. If you process better by talking, you will have no trouble finding a friendly ear. You are always welcome to reach out to a staff member and share anything you may be going through.
If you currently smoke, drink, or eat meat, you are encouraged to transition out of these habits before you arrive. You will be expected to strictly refrain from them for the duration of your stay. You will receive an email with tips for transitioning to a vegetarian diet.
We have a basic first-aid kit in the classroom. An emergency hospital is 18 minutes away. Please bring your medical insurance information with you in case of any unforeseen medical emergencies. If you are on medication of any kind, you need to inform the staff before or when you arrive. Please make sure you bring an adequate supply of your medication with you and do not stop taking your medication under any circumstances. Kundalini Yoga is a powerful practice but should not be used as a substitute for regular and necessary medical care.
The following is a list of items we recommend you bring, which will help to make your stay more comfortable. Please note that in following this yogic tradition you will be expected to wear white clothing and a white head covering during your practicums.
