Conversation as Kriya: Dialogue as a Teaching Tool
Conversation is a powerful teaching tool.
It is not random or coincidental that Yogi Bhajan did his PhD in communication and focused his mission on creating teachers. so the conversational standard, style and content of the trainer must be considered as highly significant and perhaps even central to the role of a teacher, trainer and mentor.
Conversation can be enlightening, uplifting and inspiring. However, it can also bring about a transformative experience. It can be a kriya in itself.
God is the word. We are teachers and trainers by our word more than merely our knowledge or our ability to put together nice presentations, or perfectly demonstrate an asana.
The program will explore the multi facets of communication of a trainer or teacher.
General concepts this course will cover:
- Dealing with challenging questions.
- Engaging trainees in stimulating conversation.
- Using intelligence rather than intellect.
- Use of questions in the conversation.
- Keeping the whole group engaged.
Shiv Charan Singh
Shiv Charan Singh, an unassuming and authentic spiritual teacher, Scottish by birth, is the founding director of the International Karam Kriya School (1996). Karam Kriya means ‘Total action through which our karma is brought to completion through application of spiritual consciousness guided by the intelligence of numbers’. Through the philosophy and practice of Karam Kriya, Shiv Charan Singh is deeply committed to guiding students in their spiritual growth, so they can bring spiritual awareness into their everyday lives and develop their full potential as human beings – to become the best they can be.
In his youth Shiv Charan Singh had a number of nearly fatal incidents. These near death experiences gave him an intimate knowledge of the process of living and dying that we all seek to understand. As an adolescent he experienced full Kundalini rising, a term used to describe profound spiritual awakening. Since his mid-twenties, he began studying Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma with Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa, the religious leader and founder of Sikh Dharma in the West.
Following a degree in Humanities and further training in counseling and therapeutic skills, Shiv Charan Singh went on to become an outstanding spiritual counselor, working intensively and successfully with people having drug habits and severe emotional problems. He continues to offer profoundly transformative individual and couples counseling, and has been working internationally with groups for over 30 years. Meeting, being with, and communicating with him is an invitation and opportunity to look at life from a very new perspective and to experience something fresh, surprising and magical.
He is the author of several books and articles on different aspects of spiritual life including human communication, the mystery of numbers (Let the Numbers Guide You) and poetry, (available on www.satnam.eu). As a renowned teacher of Kundalini Yoga (since 1980) and a Lead Teacher Trainer for the KRI accredited Kundalini Yoga Aquarian Teacher Training Level I & Level II, Shiv Charan Singh mentors training programmes worldwide.
In the year 2000, he founded, along with his wife Satya Kaur, the vibrant and cosmopolitan Kriya Centre in London. And in 2007 he relocated to Portugal where he co-founded the Quinta do Rajo Ashram, a retreat centre and home base for the International Karam Kriya School.
Shiv Charan Singh continues to develop and evolve the Spiritual Science of Karam Kriya – a study which, through applied Number Awareness, provides a tool for understanding the harmony and inter-relatedness of all things.
Through the living word of the teachings he invites us to fully realize our spiritual potential as human beings without the renouncement of worldly things. God is within and without; we are both part of the universe and the universe itself. Through the practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation and using the tools of Karam Kriya and Number Awareness, we can move beyond our fears and suffering and live in the light of our highest consciousness.
Shiv Charan Singh is neither self seeking nor political in his teachings. He is entertaining and both charismatic and humble in the way he speaks. Above all, his warmth and compassion have generated a community spirit at the school which reaches out to the community regardless of age and background, and attracts people from all over the world.
